Apicoectomies
When root canal treatment hasn't completely healed an infected tooth, an apicoectomy may be necessary. An apicoectomy is a minor surgical procedure. Sometimes an abscess, (which is a hole in the bone at the tip of the root) sometimes continues to grow after root canal treatment.
To stop the dental infection (odontogenic infection), your dentist makes a small incision in the gums. The dentist removes the infection and then seals the tip of the root.
Once this has been done, new bone will grow in, the infection will heal, and the tooth will be healthy again. |
